Smart selection, generative AI and MCP

Distinguish local selection tools, image generation and agent-controlled editing.

Documentation-based guide

Based on upstream documentation. These steps have not been independently tested in the desktop app; menu labels and behavior may differ by release.

Step by step

  1. Local selection is one task

Upstream documents subject and object selection running on the device. These tools help identify image regions; they are not a promise of generative replacement.

  2. Generative features have gaps

The upstream assessment identifies AI/generative features as unfinished areas. A similarly named menu or comparison table is not evidence that a Photoshop generative workflow is available.

  3. MCP controls existing commands

The CLI MCP server lets a compatible agent call editing operations. An agent deciding which command to run is different from an image-generation model synthesizing new pixels.

  4. Validate your intended result

Choose a small sample, state your intended output and inspect what actually changed. Keep inputs, outputs and agent file-access boundaries clear.
